Mineral Element Stocks in the Yedoma Domain: A Novel Method Applied to Ice-Rich Permafrost Regions

چکیده

With permafrost thaw, significant amounts of organic carbon (OC) previously stored in frozen deposits are unlocked and become potentially available for microbial mineralization. This is particularly the case ice-rich regions such as Yedoma domain. Excess ground ice degradation exposes deep sediments their OC stocks, but also mineral elements, to biogeochemical processes. Interactions elements play a crucial role stabilization fate upon thus regulate dioxide methane emissions. In addition, some limiting nutrients plant growth or metabolic activity. A large ongoing effort quantify stocks lability regions, influence on nutrient cycles has received less attention there an overall lack element content analyses sediments. Here, we combine portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) with bootstrapping technique provide i) first large-scale domain Mineral Concentrations Assessment (YMCA) dataset, ii) estimates never thawed (since deposition) partly refrozen Alas deposits. The pXRF method quantification non-destructive offers complement classical dissolution measurement by optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) solution. Using this method, concentrations (Si, Al, Fe, Ca, K, Ti, Mn, Zn, Sr Zr) were assessed 1,292 sediment samples from lower analytical costs relative ICP-OES method. measured calibrated using alkaline fusion measurements subset 144 ( R 2 0.725 0.996). results highlight that stock (1,387,000 km ) higher Si, followed Zr, Sr, Al Fe (598 ± 213 288 104 Gt) same order magnitude (327–466 Gt).

BOUNDARY ELEMENT METHOD APPLIED TO THE LIFTING BODIES NEAR THE FREE SURFACE

In this study, the boundary element method is formulated to evaluate hydrodynamic characteristics of bodies including free surface effect. The method is based on two equations, the perturbation potential boundary integral and the pressure Kutta condition, which are solved simultaneously. The method uses isoparametric elements for both quantity and geometric on the boundary. The method is first ...

Spatial analyses of thermokarst lakes and basins in Yedoma landscapes of the Lena Delta

Distinctive periglacial landscapes have formed in late-Pleistocene ice-rich permafrost deposits (Ice Complex) of northern Yakutia, Siberia. Thermokarst lakes and thermokarst basins alternate with ice-rich Yedoma uplands. We investigate different thermokarst stages in Ice Complex deposits of the Lena River Delta using remote sensing and geoinformation techniques. The morphometry and spatial dist...

The deep permafrost carbon pool of the Yedoma region in Siberia and Alaska

[1] Estimates for circumpolar permafrost organic carbon (OC) storage suggest that this pool contains twice the amount of current atmospheric carbon. The Yedoma region sequestered substantial quantities of OC and is unique because its deep OC, which was incorporated into permafrost during ice age conditions. Rapid inclusion of labile organic matter into permafrost halted decomposition and result...

A Novel Optimization Approach Applied to Multi-Pass Turning Process

Optimization of turning process is a non-linear optimization with constrains and it is difficult for the conventional optimization algorithms to solve this problem. The purpose of present study is to demonstrate the potential of Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (ICA) for optimization of multipass turning process. This algorithm is inspired by competition mechanism among imperialists and coloni...
